Seo - The Basics ExplainedBy Doug HartGood day,
Are you frustrated by all of the jargon out there that you need to learn, just to stay ahead of the curve in internet marketing? How about SEO, that’s a term I’m sure you are familiar with if you have been doing the internet marketing thing for awhile. Well today I’d like to review a few things about that might be a little cloudy for some. There are many different aspects to that you should be concerned with, and here are the main ones – although there are many more.
First of all, the initials stand for Search Engine Optimization. In most peoples minds this basically means “ranking on the top 10 results in Google” for a search term. Well, that isn’t quite what it means. Of course you want to optimize your web site to come up high in the ranks of Google searches, there is much more to it than that. The first thing you want to do is figure out who your audience is, so you can optimize your site and make it easy for them to find you. That is probably the most important thing you can do to make your site a success, because if the “right” people aren’t finding your site, they aren’t going to stay, which means they aren’t going to buy anything. When you optimize your site for the correct keywords, they will find you and make you a ton of money!
So if getting targeted traffic is my main goal, how do I go about creating a site that does that? Everybody knows the basics – putting your top keywords in the title page and description of your site. But there’s more – lots more. First of all you must keep in mind this is a strategy, not just a few quick tricks to gain traffic. Here are few of the basic strategies to get your
site found in the search engines:
1) Keywords – you must find out what “relevant keywords” are being used to find your product or topic that pertains to your website. Keyword research is critical and can’t be overlooked.
2) Site structure – build your site with a well constructed site map, which means you have a clear navigational direction so it’s easy to find your way around. If it’s hard for visitors to get from one page to another, search engine “spiders” will have the same issues.
3) Link popularity – search engines value sites that have quality links pointing to them, coming from sites that are topically related. Make sure you get links (and backlinks) to sites similar to yours.
4) Trusted content – of course you have to have some content on your site. But it must be relevant and relate to your topic, and the search engines know if people are finding what they are looking for on your site. If you have many links to other relevant sites that also have good content, your trust level will rise as well.
5) Anchor text links – many people don’t realize this, but if you create links to your site in articles, forums, or other related sites, the best “weight” you can achieve is from text links that contain specific keywords relative to your site. This is powerful stuff! Using keyword specific anchor text is a great way to get Google to fall in love with your site.
There are several other ways to get more targeted traffic, but these are the big ones. Learn as much as you can about SEO, and realize the details change ever so slightly with time so you must keep up with them! Do the basics listed above and you will get traffic.Internet marketing can be your ticket to freedom - learn more at the best money making online website!
